Our Synod - WELS
Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod

The
word Synod means "walking together." As members of the Wisconsin Synod we have
one mission along with our brothers and sisters in Christ—to proclaim peace through Jesus.
Our partnership enables us to do more to accomplish that mission than we could ever do alone.
It's a precious partnership for which we give thanks.
WELS members have many partners — our brothers and sisters in faith, our congregations, our synod.

Missions
- Establishes
new congregations across North America
- Supports
over 100 congregations which are growing to self-support
- Reaches
out to multi-cultural communities throughout North
America
- Supports
college campus ministries for nurture and outreach
World
Missions
- Proclaims
the gospel in 20 countries plus the Apache reservations
in Arizona
- Translates
and publishes Christian literature in 40 languages
- Prepares
national pastors and evangelists through a network
of Bible institutes and seminaries. Over 250 national
pastors and evangelists are currently serving.
- Coordinates
humanitarian aid in our mission fields
Ministerial
Education
- Operates
two preparatory high schools, one college and one
seminary with enrollments totaling 1,800+
- Provides
quality, Bible centered education for nearly all
WELS pastors, teachers and staff ministers
Parish
Services
- Provides
a large variety of consulting services to congregations
- Produces
a wealth of materials for worship, Christian education,
evangelism, etc. used daily in nearly every WELS
congregation
- Oversees
the fourth largest non-public school system in the
United States
- Provides
ministries for people with special needs
- Serves
over 35,000 prison inmates with Bible studies, counsel
and Christian friendship

- Administers
health insurance and pension plans for nearly every
WELS called worker
